Since its opening in 2022, Makalapo in Curepipe has quickly established itself as a true culinary reference. After a brilliant career as a chef in Dubai, Jean Loup Fraise, in partnership, created Makalapo, a restaurant that offers much more than just a meal: an unforgettable experience, 100% seafood! Right in the heart of Curepipe, the warm and dynamic team welcomes every guest with a radiant smile and unique hospitality.
The concept? A bold and friendly culinary experience where dishes are enjoyed directly on the table, without spoon or fork, but only with gloves and aprons. The idea is simple: to let yourself be carried away by authenticity and flavor in a moment of sharing.
On the menu: shrimp, lobsters, crabs, mussels, and squid, all served with fragrant jasmine rice and a signature sauce that Chef Jean Loup affectionately calls “la sauce Papi.” A true delight that pleases every palate!
Jean Loup Fraise, with an outstanding career in the kitchens of the most prestigious hotels in Mauritius since 1995, then led the kitchens in Oman before flying to Dubai. Today, he continues to delight taste buds with his bold cuisine and his spirit of sharing.

I had a great dining experience at this restaurant. The staff was incredibly welcoming and professional, especially the lady who served us. My partner and I opted for the silver platter, which was delicious and so generous that we couldn't finish it all. The Cajun sauce stood out as our favorite, and the mojito and blue lagoon mocktails were excellent. Although the menu was a little complicated at first, the staff were very helpful in guiding us. Parking was a bit tricky; we had to park at the Sik Yun parking lot. Overall, the one in Curepipe is far better than the Makalapo in Flic en Flac. We had a great time, and I highly recommend it!

I just had dinner at Makalapo. The food was incredible. The concept is also very nice, with no plates. We had a great evening with very good food and exceptional service from very welcoming staff. I highly recommend this place and will be back very soon.
